George H. W. Bush and Barbara Pierce met at a school dance in 1941, and were married a few years later in 1945, when George returned home after serving as a pilot in World War II. Their 73 year marriage is the second longest in presidential history. The Bushes had six children: four sons and two daughters, one of whom died of leukemia at age three.
