Buffalo Nickel Lapel Pin

  • Hand-crafted in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
  • Vintage Buffalo nickel
  • Nickel backing and post
  • Gift boxed
  • This simple - but elegant - lapel pin is made from the outline of a bison that has been intricately hand-cut from an antique five-cent coin and attached to a nickel backing and post. It is a lovely piece of truly American design and workmanship, and would make a wonderful gift or a special keepsake for yourself!

  • The Buffalo nickel or Indian Head nickel is a five-cent piece that was struck by the United States Mint from 1913 to 1938. The obverse of the coin shows an American Indian, while the reverse displays an American bison. Among the billions of historical records housed at the National Archives throughout the country, researchers can find information relating to American Indians from as early as 1774 through the mid-1990s. The National Archives preserves and makes available the documents created by federal agencies in the course of their daily business.

BIG AND BOLD

When I was a kid, I'd see a buffalo nickel in my change now and then. There was nothing special about seeing one in there along with TJ nickels. That was then, this is now. The average youngster today may not even know these existed, and even though I was familiar with it, I was surprised at just how big the nickel was. Usually, when you see something years later as an adult that you last saw when you were a kid, the typical reaction is, "How tiny! These looked so big when I was a kid." BUT the buffalo nickel is an exception. The workmanship is excellent and the wear on the surface actually makes it more recognizable that it was a coin. Along with the other coin lapel pins here, I now can boost the value of my shirt collar by 92 cents.

Adding my two cents!

I just purchased the Buffalo Nickel Lapel Pin for a friend who just became a citizen. Very unique, a bit of Americana! Lovely gift, appreciated very much.
