This bag comes with some surprising features. It's really heavy duty canvas, so it feels like it can take to battle. It has a very stiff hard back, so it stands up on its own even if there's not much in it. I can carry several letter size writing pads in there with no problemo. The flaps should be pushed inward when closing, not outward. They help keep small things from falling out if you flip it over. It's really "thick" (back to front) you can fit a lot in there, and there is divider. The snaps are really heavy duty, but you're in the Army now, so toughen up. NOW, THE BEST PART. I use this bag for my ARSENAL... I can carry a lot of AMMO in it--YES-- because the pen truly is mightier than the sword. "Let my armies be the written words and my ammunition be the mighty pen and pencil." (--Me, not Charlemagne.)
