  • Drafted by 33 year old Thomas Jefferson between June 11 and June 28, 1776, the Declaration of Independence is the nation's most cherished symbol of liberty. It was adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, and announced that the 13 American colonies, then at war with Great Britain, regarded themselves as independent states and no longer a part of the British Empire. Instead, they formed a union that would become a new nation: the United States of America.

The original Declaration is on permanent exhibit in the Rotunda at the National Archives Museum.

The declaration of independence

I recently purchased the Declaration of Independence in the Gold frame. When it arrived I looked at it closely and found it to be exactly like the picture in the advertisement. It was printed on paper and not parchment. ( I replaced a previous framed copy that was on parchment and over a period of 12 years the parchment turned very dark from exposure to ultra violet radiation that it could not be read any longer.)
This copy looks like it will last, it is beautifully scripted on off white paper with black ink in bold print. The frame looks like it is an antique and the gold color is just off being perfect and adds to the look of age. The result makes the framed document look like it has been in the family for many years.
The over all effect is wonderful and exactly what I wanted.
